Robert De Niro's "The Comedian" finds it hard to connect to its audience. Veteran actor believes he has come a long way from his earlier days.

In the film, De Niro plays Jackie Berowitz, an aged stand up comic waiting for a comeback. Berowitz is struggling to differentiate himself to the 90's sitcom that brought him fame.

According to Variety, De Niro's performance as Jackie created awkwardly performed comedy routines. It seems like "De Niro is just gamely reading material on Saturday Night Live" than a comedian struggling to get his groove back

"The Comedian" is a forgettable satire similar to the movie "What Just Happened?" which is what the audience will ask after watching the movie. The site also stressed that even the other cast members did not fit well on their part.

However, there is still a lot of redeeming parts for the movie. It has a strong ensemble cast aside from that includes Charles Godin, Cloris Leachman and Lois Smith.

Billy Crystal also had an amusing cameo in the film. Despite this, "The Comedian" actor still has no plans to retire on acting.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that De Niro has no plans to settle down despite critics saying that he somehow lack the drive he had early on his career.  De Niro explained that he is happy that he did movies like the "Raging Bull" and if nothing compares to that he is fine with it.

He also explained that he is different from what he is when he is just starting on the business. He said that he does not spend much time concerning himself on things that bothered him when he was younger.

Jobs & Hire reported that  De Niro has been on the spotlight lately after Sylvester Stallone replaced De Niro in the movie "Idol's Eye". The producers of the show did not divulge the reason for the replacement. "The Comedian" will hit theaters on December 2.
