In order to get hired, the job interview is one of the most important, but also the toughest process that a person must pass. An applicant would need to be able to distinguish himself or herself from the other applicants, and one way to do that is to ask the right questions.

Monster said that asking questions during the interview is a way for applicants to let the interviewer know that you understand what the company is going through and what it needs. Asking the right questions would make the interviewer sit up and take notice.

But aside from letting the interviewer know you are aware of their situation, Business Insider, a job interview is also a two-way process, as the applicant should also be assessing the employer just as much as the employer is assessing the applicant. This is to ensure that both the employer and the applicant would be really sure that they are fit for each other.

But what kind of questions should an applicant ask that would make sense for the interviewer? There are a lot of questions that an applicant could ask, but here are three main questions that applicants should be asking during a job interview.

First, ask about the company. Ask the interviewer about the company's culture, how they define success, what are their short-term and long-term plans, the staff turnover rate of the company, and the challenges the company is currently facing. An applicant can also use this chance to clarify things that he or she heard about the company, especially if it's something negative.

Next is for the applicant to ask about the position he or she is applying for. Ask about their ideal candidate for the position, how has the position evolved, why did the previous person working there left, the challenges that the position has, the areas of improvements that the position needs, and how the applicant would be measured to gauge his or her success.

Lastly, is for the applicant to ask more about the interviewer. How long has he or she been with the company, does he or she enjoy working there, what can he or she say about the company, and about the people who work there.

Though there are a lot of questions to be asked, the three mentioned are the core questions that an applicant needs to ask to let the interviewer know they are serious. But here are some added questions that an applicant can ask is what's the next step after the interview, when can the applicant hear feedback, and who to contact for follow ups.
