Annie Awards 2016: 'Zootopia' Takes Lead With Most Nominations

Annie Awards revealed the list of film nominees competing for this year. Under the 31 selection categories, 11 include Walt Disney's "Zootopia" making it the most nominated animation film.

"Zootopia," featuring the voices of Ginnifer Goodwin and Nick Wild is a story of Judy Hopps, the first rabbit policewoman in the animal metropolis, who wanted to prove herself and went to solve a mysterious case along with a sly fox named Jason Bateman. The film was launched on March 04, 2016 and had a total earnings of $1.024 billion.

It is nominated for the Best Animated Feature alongside with "Kubo and The Two Strings" by Laika which also placed second with ten nominations. Disney/Pixar's "Finding Dory," "Kung Fu Panda 3" by DreamWorks and Disney's "Moana," which recently grabbed the largest ticket sales for its five-day Thanksgiving opening, were also nominated under the same category, Deadline reports.

Aside from such, Zootopia was also nominated for the following awards: Animated Effects in an Animated Production, Directing in an Animated Feature Production, Writing in an Animated Feature Production and Character Animation in an Animated Feature Production. The movie is also vying for Annie's Character Design in an Animated Feature Production, Production Design in an Animated Feature Production, Storyboarding in an Animated Feature Production, Voice Acting in an Animated Feature Production and Editorial in an Animated Feature Production.

Other awards include categories like Best Animated Short Subject, Best Student Films, Best Animated Broadcast for both Preschoolers and Children, Best Animated Television/Broadcast Commercial,  Best General Audience Animated Television/Broadcast, Outstanding Achievement, Character Animation in a Video Game. Annie is  also awarding Outstanding Special effects for both animated and live action movies. The full list of nominees can be seen here.

Annie Awards is an award giving body, honoring the best of the best in arts of animation as well as in other endeavors that contributed to the excellence of animating industry. Aside from the nominated awardees, Annie is also holding juried awards which include five categories:

Special Achievement Award, June Foray Award - for their significant and benevolent or charitable impact on the art and industry of animation, Ub Iwerks Award - for technical advancement in the art of animation,Winsor McCay Award - for their career contributions to the art of animation and Certificate of Merit. Furthermore, the 44th annual Annie Awards is set to take place on Febuary 04, 2017 at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA).
