OKLAHOMA CITY - Christopher Lane, Australian baseball player, went out for a jog in his neighborhood, only to be shot and killed by three "bored" teenagers, who allegedly killed the aussie for the fun of it, police chief Danny Ford said.

Lane was only staying at the town of Duncan temporarily as part of his visit to his girlfriend's family home; however, he untimely met his doom after passing the route where the three teenagers were staying.

"They saw Christopher go by, and one of them said: 'There's our target," Ford said, adding that a 17-year-old Michael Jones, one of the trio, gave him a detailed recount of what really happened after saying that they were actually bored and did not have anything to do during that moment; hence, they decided to kill somebody. Ford continued, saying that the weapon used in the shooting is still nowhere in sight.

Jones also confessed that they followed Lane for a couple of minutes before shooting him at the back and quickly driving off the scene.

Jones and the other two - James Edward, 15, and Chancey Luna, 16 - are right now in custody, awaiting the filing of the district attorney's first-degree murder charges against them. No word has been given yet whether the three will be charged as juveniles or as adults, but they are already scheduled for their first appearance in the law court on Tuesday afternoon.

"There's not gonna be any good to come out of this cause it was just so senseless," Lane's father, Peter Lane, told the press.

Additionally, Lane's girlfriend, Sarah Harper, is also finding it hard to recover from the incident. "He didn't deserve any of this... It's heartbreaking that it was such a random choice those guys made that drastically altered so many lives in the process," she said.

One of the first responders to the crime scene Richard Rhodes recounted, "He was face down on the ground and he was shot in the back with a .22 revolver. I had another lady stop and we tried CPR on him. And he passed away right here."

Lane and his girlfriend have just returned to the country a week prior to the incident, and he was to continue attending East Central University in Ada.

The Melbourne baseballer's coach Dino Rosato shared in the statement released by the University, "Chris was an extremely well-respected teammate. ... He set a great example for all of his teammates, but more importantly for the younger players. He was a mature student-athlete who his teammates could look to for advice and support."

One of the mothers of the suspects later on told the media that the teenagers - her son included - were actually caught up in the idea of becoming a "wannabe gang."
