"Overwatch" has emerged victorious at The Game Awards 2016 making Blizzard one proud mama. The team-based multiplayer shooter game nabbed the "Game Of The Year" award despite being against other critically acclaimed games.
Blizzard's consistently popular team shooting game "Overwatch" has reigned supreme at The Game Awards 2016. Despite being against popular game titles for the "Game Of The Year" award, "Overwatch" stands as the proud victor. What does Blizzard's bet for the awards have against the other candidates that caused its colorful success?
The other games that qualified for the "Game Of The Year" award definitely have their fair share of fans and players who love the games. As per Forbes, "Titanfall 2" and "DOOM" are amazing games as well, however, being pitted against "Overwatch," it seemed the two did not compare. Blizzard's team shooter game is consistently loved and played by millions of fans worldwide.
"Overwatch" is not free to play and fans would need to purchase the game in order to bask in its open fire glory. However, despite the fact that the game is not free, "Overwatch" still managed to gather a huge player base consisting of fans who are willing to dish out some cash. This alone proves that Blizzard's game is simply extraordinary and many are not surprised that "Overwatch" won the "Game Of The Year Award" at The Game Awards 2016.
The ever popular team shooter game has sold over 20 million copies in the short span of five months since its release as reported by PVP Live. Moreover, "Overwatch: also had more than 8 million active players during its beta days and later nabbed a record in China being the fastest selling PC game of all time.
Blizzard also unleashed a few seasonal events that could have contributed to "Overwatch's" dominance in The Game Awards 2016. The timing could not be any better and the success of their events served the players of the shooting game rather well.
Moreover, the game also announced its participation in the world of eSports in the near future. The "Overwatch League" will start in 2017 and has a sure shot at being as popular as other eSport championships in the industry, such as "Dota 2's" "The International" and "League of Legends'" "League of Legends Championship Series" also known as "LCS."
The fact that "Overwatch" is definitely an amazingly developed game with splendid graphics and engaging gameplay, plus the greatly timed events and soon to be held eSports tournament helped the game reign supreme in The Game Awards 2016.
