Sperreng teacher James Wilder III was arrested after a crime of inappropriate sexual relationship with a minor 17 years ago made its way back to him, leading to his arrest last Tuesday.
A former student, whose name hasn't been released, says she was only 16 when the sexual relationship began. The Sperreng teacher was her PE instructor in her cross country and track team back in Lindbergh High School. The girl is now a full grown woman and says that the relationship started August 1, 1996 and continued until September 21, 1997. She says that she came forward because she believes she isn't the only one that was taken advantage of by James.
Fox 2 reports, "James Bliss Wilder III is charged with six counts of statutory sodomy in the second degree. The charges stem from an alleged relationship Wilder had with a 16-year-old student in 1996," The teacher, who is now 47 is being held on a $50,000 cash bond. As for the school, the Sperreng teacher is under 'paid administrative leave'.
This isn't the first time James got his hands cuffed because of the same allegations. Back in 2008, he was arrested for having an inappropriate contact with another student. He was then released because there was not enough "credible evidence" for the case to push forward.
Sadly, the teacher in Sperreng is only one of the countless cases of inappropriate and sexual teacher-student relationship. Just recently, a T.C. Willliams teacher was forced to resign after reports of him having improper relations with several of his female students. Another case reveals that a 32-year old female teacher in DeWitt Clinton High School got pregnant from having an affair with her 17-year old student after saying "she didn't like condoms".
Texas is the leading state when it comes to teacher-student relations. Since January 1, it had at least 51 reported cases.
