Oscar winner Ben Affleck will star as the latest Dark Knight in the sequel to "Man of Steel", as Warner Brothers finally breaks the long waiting game.
41-year old Ben, who recently won Best Picture for producing the multi-awarded movie Argo, is set to appear alongside Henry Cavill, who will be reprising his role as Superman and Zack Synder who will still direct the sequel to probably the most anticipated superhero film ever. Laurence Fishburne, Amy Adams and Diane Lane are all set to play the same roles again the film, which is eyeing July 2015 as its premiere. Christopher Nolan is said to be one of the executive producers of the upcoming blockbuster.
The shocking revelation comes after all the speculations and guesses as to who the next Batman will be, including Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender. Ben Affleck was far from that list. As for director Zack, he states: "Ben provides an interesting counter-balance to Henry's Superman. He has the acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter, but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne. I can't wait to work with him."
Warner Brothers said in their statement, as they broke the news: "We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some," But what of the rest of Hollywood? What did some stars have to say?
Kevin Smith was among the first to react, tweeting, "Holy shit... BEN AFFLECK IS THE NEW BATMAN!!! Do you know what this means? It means that I've seen Batman naked!!!" Richard Dreyfuss also took to Twitter posting, "You read for a part, you feel good about it, you feel confident, then they cast Ben Affleck." Patton Oswalt's reactions was certainly not to be missed as he tweeted, "WOW, @BenAffleck is gonna play Batman. I hope he fights the Joke-ah! #wickedpissah" As for Ben himself, there's no word from him just yet.
Man of Steel broke records, grossing $289 million in the U.S. alone and $650 million worldwide.
Filming starts next year but really, we can't wait what the Daredevil and Gigli star has to say.
