The sponsorship includes a package which gives publicity to Tesco in mobile, online, and broadcast platforms.

Season 4 will welcome addition to the cast members, particularly on the male characters. One of the most notable addition is Tom Cullen, who will play the role of Lord Gillingham. He will debut on the second episode of Downton Abbey Season 4. His character will serve as an adviser to Lady Mary regarding inheritance tax.

Gareth Neame, the executive producer of the show said, "Gillingham is a very useful friend to Mary at a time she's not able to make decisions." The character was described as a family friend, who "... she's known since the girls were children and they haven't seen him since she was tiny."

Another addition to the cast is Gary Carr, who will play the jazz singer, Jack Ross. His character's first appearance will be on the third episode of the show. Jack Ross will be the one to convince Lady Mary to abandon the house and go to London.

Julian Ovenden, on the other hand, will be Charles Blake, someone who will help Lady Mary to run the house amidst all the confusion and struggle. Neame said, "Blake is someone she just doesn't like. He's modern-thinking but does not share the family's sentimentality about the past"
