‘The Flash’ Season 3 Spoilers: Jay Garrick Will Continue To Be A Presence When Show Returns in 2017

This week, in the midseason finale of “The Flash,” Barry speeded off to Earth 3 to seek Jay Garrick’s (John Wesley Shipp) help, as the former wanted to know more about Savitar. During the hour, Jay was instrumental in helping Barry learn about the villain. While Garrick’s character was not a huge presence during the first half of season 3, the actor revealed that fans will see more of his character when The CW show returns next year.
In an interview with CBR, Shipp was asked whether any of Jay’s mistakes in the past will be revealed in the back half of the current installment of "The Flash," and the actor said that “those hints keep being dropped.”
“It’s very interesting to me, and I’m going to figure in more prominently in the second half of the season than the first,” said Shipp. “There really are some curious things that Jay says that make me, John, wonder, ‘Okay, what’s coming?’”
Shipp was part of the season 1 and 2 cast of “The Flash” as Barry’s father, Henry Allen. In most of the show’s first two seasons, Henry was seen in jail as he was wrongfully accused of the death of his wife. Towards the tail end of season 2, Henry’s innocence was proven, which led to him being freed.
However, Barry’s joy at being reunited with his father was cut short after Henry was killed by Zoom (Teddy Sears) in the penultimate episode. In the season 2 finale, it was revealed that Zoom’s prisoner is no other than Jay Garrick, also known on Earth 3 as "The Flash." To Barry’s shock, Jay also happens to be Henry’s doppelganger.
Based on Garrick’s comments, it appears that Jay will continue to be a positive presence in Barry’s life when "The Flash" returns to The CW. As for the series’ return, the network has yet to announce an official midseason premiere date, but Futon Critic lists repeat episodes until Jan. 10, which means that episode 10 could air on Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2017.
