Being a private investigator is indeed an exciting job as it deals with special and mostly top-secret cases from various clients. Movies with spies and detectives studying a case can even get everyone into action. However, in real life, being a PI isn't always as cool as it sounds, sources say.
According to Cracked, working as a private investigator doesn't only take you to the deepest and darkest secrets of life but will also bring you to the most unexpected and funniest part of reality. In fact, as per the said report, various Private Investigators revealed that their work can also get as silly as watching over someone's front yard or even watching for a ghost or alien.
And so, with all the stuffs from the said article, we have picked some of the most interesting realities PIs have to deal with, on their day by day jobs. Buckle up and get ready to be thrilled as we impart the realest things you learn along the way when you work as a private investigator
Most Clients are Paranoid Homeowners/Stalkers
While we see cases that include death threats, bombings, kidnapping and the like, PIs revealed that they also get to work for homeowners who wanted their house to be watch over from supernatural and mythical elements that might be lurking around their areas.
In fact, a private investigator named Jerome revealed to have most of his case dealing with watching for elves, aliens or even the CIA. Some of the clients even pay sumptuous amount just to be eased from thinking mysterious men or even other creatures are breaking in their homes.
On the other hand, stalkers are also one of the people who seek for their service in order to track down a person whom they claim to be an "old friend" but turns out to be someone whom they are obsessed with. In return, some PIs will contact the target and say someone wants to get in touch with them, which will eventually drive the creepy stalkers away.
Not all cops are on the same page
While cops and PIs mostly work hand in hand in movies, it depicts the opposite in real life. Indeed, there is a thin line that separates a private investigator from a normal creepy stalker, and PIs revealed that they still get stopped and asked questions by the cops every now and then. Sad thing is that it happens more often to black PIs.
Private investigators said that not all cops are on the same page, hence, the need to explain things and show some documents to prove their work in legal. While many gets freed after, some experienced having their gun pulled off along with series of questioning, said the source.
The work goes beyond catching cheaters and frauders
While most clients hire PIs to catch their partner cheating or prove other people to be frauders, their work mostly deal beyond such. In fact, according to Jerome, there are cases where he saw the genuine concerns of people thus making him pursue the case.
He laid an example of a man who hired him to catch his ex-lover's pedophile boyfriend who is allegedly molesting his child. The guy wanted to take full custody of the child thus asking Jerome to take a footage of the guy around the kid to prove his accusation.
He did and though the mother didn't believe the assault and took her way to ditch the case, in the end the father still got the custody and the pedophile man was caught. This proves that unlike in the movies where PIs are mostly cold and to remain heartless, kindness and just are still a huge part of their game.
Being a Private Investigator has been the dream of many people in their childhood. Yet beyond the coolness and badass stuffs we see on the big screen, real life PIs reveal that their work is to help out even if it risks their own security and at times, ask them to do the silliest of things just to fulfill their duties.
