Like the name of the monster that it carries in its title, "The Mummy" franchise has risen back from the death. "The Mummy" 2017 movie will be a reboot of the classic Universal monster movie series, with the old but gold blockbuster actor Tom Cruise as its lead star.
The official trailer was released this weekend and we found out that the classic horror-adventure movie is far from the same "Mummy" movie that we have seen so far. First and foremost the movie is set in the modern day, where we can see a military cargo plane transporting a creepy and obviously cursed sarcophagus. The new movie will be entirely different than the previous films that were set during the 1920s and the 1930s.
The reboot will have a different charm than the previous installments, as the movie will be starred by the 54-year old actor, Tom Cruise, who's well known for his role in the "Mission Impossible" series. According to GamenGuide, the presence of the blockbuster actor will surely let us see the most action-packed "The Mummy" movie of the franchise. With Star Trek's Alex Kurtzman directing, we can expect that it is not far from happening.
The British actress Annabelle Wallis will be joining the film, who will play Jenny Halsey, a renowned archaeologist working for the Cultural Heritage division of United Nations. She will be in charge of retrieving the sarcophagus and bringing it to London.
We will also be graced by the presence of another big star, Russel Crowe, saying the tagline of the movie "Welcome to a new world of gods and monsters..." in the trailer. Though Crowe's nerdy character isn't named in the trailer, the director has confirmed that he is Dr. Henry Jekyll. He will play a huge role in the development of Cruise's character nick Morton.
Kurtzman initially planned to go with the long list of male mummies but ended up turning away from the mainstream to create some uniqueness to the film. Sofia Boutella, who's most notable in her role as the sharp-legged Gazelle in "Kingsman: The Secret Service", will be Princess Ahmanet the vengeful spirit from time immemorial.
This will be definitely a different movie than its two predecessors. There will be big stars, an amazing director, and an awesome story. With this much to offer, I can see a sequel already but before that, let's watch and see what "The Mummy" 2017 movie has to offer that is scheduled for a release date on June 9, 2017.
