An Aurigid meteor shower is expected to happen tonight and peak Sunday morning tomorrow, Yahoo! reported Saturday.

The American Meteor Society stated that the Aurigid meteor shower will bring a heavenly feast of meteors particularly on Sept.1 morning although it has already entered the Earth's meteor stream on Aug. 1.

The Society added that North America will be the best vantage point to enjoy the peak of the meteor shower, adding that people should expect 14-20 meteoroids flying across the dark skies within the final hour before dawn, and 5 or so meteors per hour tonight!

Yahoo! stated that a veritable feast of meteors such as this one has only happened four times in history, namely: in 1935, 1986, 1994, and 2007.

The stream of heavenly debris that are expected to appear tonight are said to be the remnants of Comet Kiess - a comet orbiting the sun, that takes about 1,800 to 2,000 years to complete its rotation. NASA stated earlier that these remnants can be seen as bright, oddly-colored meteors flying about in the night sky.

Authorities have given useful suggestions for those who want to make the most out of the Aurigid meteor shower.

According to the guidelines, for people who want to enjoy a clear view of the meteors, they should check the local weather in their area and note the possible cloud conditions, temperature, and humidity.

They should also find a location far from heavily-polluted areas in their city, preferably somewhere dark that the only light glowing are the ones coming from the sky.

Meanwhile, National Geographic has reported earlier that Jupiter will be appearing next to the Earth's crescent moon as the brightest star-like object tonight as well, just before the Aurigid meteor shower begins.

"It's a pretty pairing for the naked eye or binoculars," National Geographic stated.

After the meteor shower, people can expect the triangular lining of Jupiter and Mars with the crescent moon in between.
