A 96-year-old man was found dead in Katy on Friday; police suspected that he was attacked by a group of dogs as due to the bite marks in his body, KENS5 reported Sunday.

According to the authorities, the grandson of the elderly man, who was identified as Juan Campos, found his body in his backyard in the 223000 block of Maplewood Drive, adding that one of the dead man's pet dog was also killed.

"I called his name many, many times hoping that he would respond, that he would turn around and ask for help, but he didn't," his grandson, Miguel Velasquez said.

Miguel shared that he saw three "pit bull type" dogs near the corpse, which was missing a part of of a leg and was apparently full of bite marks

"And it just shocked me, it shocked me badly," his grandson said.

ABC local stated that Cy-Fair EMS and Harris County deputies were the respondents to the scene, and they have seized five dogs near the area.

One of the deputies said that the dogs mauled and nearly killed another family pet nearby, adding that the pet was rushed to the vet right away.

Meanwhile, the man's neighbors claimed that one of the seized dogs belongs to the family living next-door, as evidenced by its gesture when he approached the body of the elderly man. "There's a wooden fence that surrounds the complaintant's (sic)yard and there are holes in the fence where the slats have been broken," HCSO Sgt. Ben Beall said.

"We're talking about a man who's 96 years old. We're talking about extreme temperatures," Beall added. "He doesn't have any known medical issues, but you know, just because of the extreme conditions that we are dealing with, we are just not going to know until they do the autopsy and it may be 60 to 90 days before we can get a ruling from the medical examiner."

Although the police are not yet convinced on the cause of death, Velasquez already said that he was certain about how his grandfather had died.

"He was very healthy man," Velasquez said. "I come home, and there's this three dogs that are killing this other dog and I see him lying dead. What else could it be?"

Velasquez claimed that they have had problems with their neighbor's dogs in the past.

"Those dogs should have been either kept in a better, safer place or tied up somehow. Now our family is suffering," he said.

Authorities said that if the investigation will prove that the dogs really killed the old man, their owners are to face charges.
