'Don Jon' actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt admitted that he was apprehensive in doing full nudity for the movie he wrote and directed, Hollywood Life reported Tuesday.
In the upcoming movie 'Don Jon,' Joseph plays a guy who is overly obsessed with porn. He even has a lot of steamy love scenes with co-star Scarlett Johansson, but revealed to the press that neither of them stripped down to make it look more realistic.
"It would be distracting. This is not a movie of brutal realism; it's a comedy and it's a story. It's sort of a parable, so there would really be no reason to have any nudity," Gordon-Levitt told Q Syndicate.
According to the actor, he plays the role of Jon Martello, a guy who lives in his car and is often called by his buddies as Don Jon because he can have different woman every weekend. Despite his active sex life he can't seem to get enough of watching pornography. The plot revolves around the tactics and methods Don Jon came up with in order for him to land a date with Barbara (Johansson).
However, although 'The Dark Knight Rises' star said that 'Don Jon' features a lot of adult scenes, he maintained that no one should expect to see any full frontal nudity in it.
Joseph also explained why he decided to write and direct an adult comedy with such a scandalous subject.
"I thought the idea of a guy, who watches too much pornography," the actor said. "And a young woman, who watches too many romantic Hollywood movies, was a hilarious way to ask the question: How do the different kinds of media we consume impact our lives and our love lives?"
'Don Jon' is already getting a lot of attention because of its controversial trailer where Joseph and Scarlett are seen making out in a hallway.
The film is set to come out in theaters on Sept. 27.
