Melanie Griffith is a proud mother after the official announcement that her daughter Dakota Griffith Johnson is to star as Anastasia Steele in '50 Shades of Grey' movie adaptation, People reported Tuesday.
The famous star spoke out on Monday after 'Fifty Shades' author E.L. James tweeted that her daughter Dakota Johnson will portray Anastasia Steele and co-star with Charlie Hunnam, who will portray Christian Grey.
"My beautiful child Dakota has been chosen to play Anna Steele in 50 Shades," Melanie tweeted after hearing the news. "Look out world! Here she comes!!! #proudmama."
However, according to People, some 'Fifty Shades' novel fans were not pleased with the casting of both Johnson and Hunnam for the lead characters in the erotic trilogy because for them the two stars are relatively infamous with only a few shows under their names.
Dakota Johnson starred in the short-lived sitcom 'Ben and Kate' while Charlie Hunnam is still acting for 'Sons of Anarchy.'
In addition, many fans also commented that the two budding actors are no fit for the lead roles, and even named other Hollywood stars, who they think deserve to be Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele for the movie.
Nevertheless, movie producer Dana Brunetti defended their decision and voiced out her thoughts on the fans' displeasure over the casting.
"There is a lot that goes into casting that isn't just looks. Talent, availability, their desire to do it, chemistry with other actor, etc," Dana wrote on Twitter. "So if your favorite wasn't cast, then it is most likely due to something on that list. Keep that in mind while hating and keep perspective."
Meanwhile, Michael De Luca, another producer to the 'Fifty Shades' movie said, "Auditions were stunning, incredible chemistry."
The 'Fifty Shades' movie adaptation of the first book in the erotic trilogy is to come out in theaters in August 2014.
