Ubisoft's latest game "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands" will be set in Bolivia and it will feature the biggest map the company has ever made. The massive map of Bolivia will provide the players with a more open-world experience.
According to a feature from Polygon, Ubisoft personally went to Bolivia to immerse themselves in the South American country. The company split into several teams to explore the cities, the ecosystem, interview the people and experience the daily living in the country.
"The very first step was to go there, to send a team for a couple of weeks to really investigate the country," Benoit Martinez, Wildlands' lead artist and technical art director, said. "Four groups split to go in every direction - from north to south, east to west - taking thousands and thousands of pictures."
The materials the team gathered allowed Ubisoft to create a map that will allow the players to really immerse themselves into the game and provide for a more open-world experience. Martinez said that the game will feature NPCs who are really living in the world.
"They go to bed at night. They get up. They go to work," Martinez said. "Whether or not you interact with them or not, they live their own life."
Aside from NPCs, also noticeable are the Ghosts, as they are no longer wearing U.S. Army uniforms. These Ghosts are now made to blend in more within the locals, as the missions in Bolivia are more of long-term.
Nouredine Abboud, the senior producer, said in June that the players will be spending a lot of the time in enemy lines, so Ghosts needed to be able to blend in. He adds that this makes the gameplay more exciting as players don't just need to kill several guys or execute a special operations attack.
Ubisoft created the game to be more of open-world experience type, where the players are encouraged to explore the Bolivia map more. Tech Times reports that an example of a mission from the game is to take down a drug cartel that's based on the jungle.
This setting allows players to explore the wilderness of Bolivia while infiltrating enemy lines. The game is set to be released on March 7, 2017, on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Ubisoft is also accepting signups for beta testing for players who want to participate in the open-world adventure.
