Following the enormous success of "Maleficent" in 2014 as well as "Cinderella" in 2015, movie makers are confident that other classic Disney animations are also due for the live film adaptation. The next title in line following "Beauty and the Beast" in 2017 is the 2018 release of "Mulan."
The Asian Production
Considering that "Mulan" has the potential to become a blockbuster, Disney offered the directorial position to the Award-winning Taiwanese director Ang Lee. It is important to take note that the Oscar films "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2000), "Brokeback Mountain" (2005), and "Life of Pi" (2012) has cemented Ang Lee's credentials as a stalwart film helmsmen comparable to the likes of Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.
Unfortunately, as emphasized by an article in Yibada, Ang Lee declined the opportunity. He did strongly suggest, however, that "Mulan" should be directed by an Asian director and reprised by Asian acting staff.
The 4k And More
There are no official statements about who is selected as a director yet. However, there are details concerning the applying 4K graphic rendering into "Mulan." A 48-frame per second configuration is also proposed to upcoming films such as the two upcoming sequels for the science fiction film "Avatar."
As per the report of Parent Herald, "Mulan" is just one of the many Disney cartoons to be transfigured into the live film adaptation. Other classic animations include "Alladin", "Little Mermaid", and "The Lion King."
Backtracking 2010
It is important to take note, however, that the idea of creating a live "Mulan" movie was already a long-time working progress. In fact, the first proposal was circulated in mass media sometime in 2010.
An article by Jobs & Hire highlights how the Chinese superstar Xiang Xiyi was once chosen as the lead role for the eponymous character before the production concept was scrapped. For the upcoming 2018 film, rumors are rife about selecting the Asian-American actress Jamie Chung.
