Fan favorite Harley Quinn is getting a solo movie titled "Gotham City Sirens." The film will feature an all-female cast and is a spinoff from the "Suicide Squad" storyline.
It was reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Margot Robbie would reprise her popular role, Harley Quinn. Moreover, Director David Ayer has step foot in the picture and is set to direct the film.
Harley Quinn is the part-time girlfriend, in a love-hate relationship, of the prince of crime, Joker. Now, the limelight will be focused on Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn and a couple of other top DC villainesses.
Also, rumors have surfaced of the possibility of Anne Hathaway reprising her Catwoman role. After all, Hathaway is also interested in taking the role again, according to Comic Book.
"Gotham City Sirens" is a recent comic series from DC, which features Batman's stable of female baddies. Among them are the notorious Quinn, the once Batman love interest Catwoman and the evasive and toxic Poison Ivy.
The story of "Gotham City Sirens" was made by Paul Dini and Guillem March. The story is set after the Dark Knight is nowhere to be found, and the most elusive female criminals of Gotham have taken control of the city.
In an article by the Collider, DC's decision to keep Ayer is questionable since his recent "Suicide Squad" outing wasn't entirely praised by critics and fans alike. But, this could also be good for the new antihero DC film because the screenwriters and Director Ayer himself can learn from the mistakes they have incurred.
However, no matter how "Suicide Squad" was lambasted, DC still managed to pull off a gross of $745.6 million worldwide. Now that "Gotham City Sirens" has been confirmed, followers of the DC Extended Universe surely have their hopes up.
