Baby Elaina, the 18-month-old child who disappeared from a Toledo, Ohio, home on June 2, was allegedly found dead three months after, UPI reported Friday.
On Thursday, Lucas County Coroner Dr. Diane Barnett confirmed that a computer box which "appear to contain human remains" was found in the garage where the toddler was reportedly kidnapped or gone missing, the Toledo Blade reported.
CBS Local KFVS News reported on Sept. 6 that the Toledo house where baby Elaina was last seen in was apparently the former residence of her mother's boyfriend Steven King.
The remains found is scheduled for autopsy examination Friday morning.
According to earlier reports, baby Elaina's father T.J. Steinfurth had come to the Toledo home on June 2 to pick her up, but Elaina's mother, Angela, told him that the baby was missing, adding that she has disappeared from her bed during their nap.
Police, family, friend, and neighbors then moved to launch a massive search which continued for about three months now.
Meanwhile, HLN reported that baby Elaina's mom's story on how she has gone missing changed several times during the investigation. The report pointed out that Angela initially claimed that she and the baby took a nap, noting that baby Elaina was gone when she woke up.
However, in one incident, she admitted that when she and the baby woke up, Elaina had a broken nose and a black eye, but the injuries were never reported to the police.
Angela was then arrested on June 12 for obstruction of official business, but she insisted that she does not have information on the whereabouts of the baby.
Weeks after Angela's arrest, her boyfriend King was also detained for the same charges as well as for making false statements earlier, yet King also maintained that he does not have any idea on what had really happened to baby Elaina.
As of late, Angela, and Steven remain incarcerated.
Baby Elaina's father said on Thursday that the discovery of the human remains inside the box made him "irate," adding that "it's hard to stay optimistic" given the present situation.
Toledo police have already scheduled a live press conference on Friday at 10:30 a.m. on WNWO and northwestohio.com to discuss the developments in the case.
Meanwhile, James Patrick, another Lucas county coroner, said that the identification of the remains discovered earlier might take several weeks, but added that his office is willing to speed up the process with assistance from the state.
Baby Elaina's disappearance gained much attention when Nancy Grace featured the baby's disappearance on her show. The community has even hoped and prayed for baby Elaina's safe return due to the heart-breaking story.
