A Pinetown accident happened Thursday evening, leaving 27 people dead and 80 others injured, News.com reported quoting from a medical responde's statements Friday.

South African authorities said that the road collision in Pinetown, west of the coastal city of Durban in the eastern part of the country, took place when a truck abruptly crashed into several vehicles.

According to Yahoo! the track crashed into four minibus taxis and a car due to the failure of the truck's braking system. Police have already launched further investigation on the real cause of the tragedy.

President Jacob Zuma's appointed spokesman for the Pinetown accident cabinet minister Jeff Radebe - because the former is currently attending the G20 summit in Russia - said that there have been three road collisions claiming many lives in recent days. Radebe added that Zuma is appealing to all drivers to exercise proper precautionary measures while on the road.

The Pinetown accident is considered as the most fatal road accident in KuaZulu-Natal as of late.

Radebe's statement was actually referring to the accidents that had happened earlier.

Earlier Sunday evening, a bus carrying little girls and their mothers overturned on their way home from the reed dance event, a traditional ceremony, in the same province, leaving at least 10 people dead, reports stated.

In addition, road accidents in July of this year had killed 158 people in the southeastern province.

Yahoo! noted that South Africa is facing a tirade of road accidents recently, which has become the biggest killer in the said country.

Media claimed there are factors that mainly contribute to the increased road death toll and disability. These factors were said to be: ageing vehicles, dim awareness of traffic safety, bad roads, and lax regulations of driving laws.
