Bloodhound Gang, a U.S. rock group, have been named as suspects in a criminal case in Russia after bassist stuffed a Russian flag down his trousers, BBC reported Tuesday.
Two members of Bloodhound Gang have been named as prime suspects in a criminal case after band's bassist "Evil" Jared Hasselholf stuffed a Russian flag down his trousers on stage in Ukraine last July.
Russian audience caught the incident on camera and posted clips of the incident on social media sites.
The Investigative Committee, known as the Russian FBI, said that they are now thoroughly examining "Evil" and the band's front man, Jimmy Pop because of the flag stunt.
The two are to face claims of "inciting hatred in an organized group," and the charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in penal colony, Yahoo! reported.
Other suspects could also be implicated, the investigators added.
According to the Investigative Committee's website, James Franks (Jimmy Pop's real name) shouted some English insulting expressions against Russia during their Ukraine gig, adding that Franks along with Jared Hennegan (Jared Hasselholf's real identity) plotted to carry out acts aimed at "humiliating the human dignity of citizens of Russia."
Bloodhound Gang has already been banned from performing in any Russian festival after authorities saw the video of the flag stunt that was posted online.
"These idiots will not perform in [the region of Russia] Kuban," Russian Culture Minister Vladimir Medinsky tweeted after seeing the video.
Russia's Interior Ministry said on August that it was already contemplating on whether they are to charge the two with a lesser offence after desecrating a Russian flag, adding that this carries a maximum sentence of one year.
Reports stated that Hennegan was also banned from returning to Ukraine within the next five years after he urinated on the Russian flag on stage during their gig.
Investigators said in a statement that foreigners can face criminal responsibility if proven that their crime was directed against the interests of Russians or of Russia, in general.
Bloodhound Gang is a rock band founded in 1991. The band's famous hits include 'The Bad Touch' and 'The Ballad of Chasey Lain.'
