9/11 Anniversary Begins With Bomb Threat in Hampton Road, VA: Heavy Traffic Inspections To Continue [VIDEO & REPORT]

A bomb threat with a time for expiry was called in at approximately 7:50 AM this Wednesday morning, September 11. It is the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 bombings, and law enforcement officials rushed to the Hampton Road, Virginia, where the threat was supposedly to be carried out. Officials say that the time frame for the attacks has recently expired, but inspections are not to loosen up any time soon.
State and Local Patrols combined forces with officers from Homeland Security as well as the FBI and K9 units; putting up intense precautionary measures such as vehicle inspections and closing down the Hampton Roads Bridge tunnel and the Monitor-Merrimac Tunnel.
All passing trucks were thoroughly inspected at checkpoints along interstates 64 and 664; several commercial vehicles were stopped for inspection as well, and inspections have been reported to continue for the rest of the day for public safety.
The two tunnels affected by the security inspections have since been reopened at around 3:15 PM, easing the backed up traffic jam that had gone for miles around since this morning. Disgruntled motorists have however expressed approval at seeing their law enforcement officials' swift response to the bomb threat, despite several speculations that the threat might have just been a prank call with terrible timing (and done in really bad taste.)
No incidents have been reported in the Hampton Roads, and the state police have still been working with local and federal law enforcement officials to "evaluate the threat," which still currently remains under investigation.
The heightened alert is mainly due to the tension surrounding every anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, wherein terrorist threats are reported to increase at an alarming rate. None of the threats have carried out their word, however, and officials always choose to act on the side of extreme precaution rather than ignore all potential threats.
