A dog has emerged a hero after saving a young boy from the abusive hands of a South Carolina babysitter, who was convicted of child abuse a week ago, by alerting the toddler's parents that the woman was mistreating their child, ABC News reported Thursday.

The parents of 7-month-old Finn Jordan suspected that something was wrong a year ago when their loyal dog began to growl and snarl at their son's babysitter, 22-year-old Alexis Khan.

"We noticed the dog was getting very defensive when Alexis was around. He would growl and stand between her and our son. His hair would stand up on the back of his neck and we knew something was up," Finn's father, Benjamin Jordan told ABC News.

The babysitter was reportedly working for the family for over five months prior to the suspicion of Finn's parents.

Benjamin said that he and his wife dis some background check on Khan, who had held several babysitting jobs in the past, before they hired her to watch their little toddler whenever they are at work.

According to the parents, their black lab and German shepherd mix Killian has always been a docile and friendly dog before meeting Khan.

Due to their suspicion, Finn's parents decided to place an iPhone under a living room couch so that they could record an audio of Khan while she babysits their young boy, and in the hope of hearing a possible dog abuse to clarify why their dog has become unfriendly towards the woman, court documents and officials stated.

However, what they heard through the recording shocked them. They heard Khan telling their young Finn to "shut the f*** up" and even calling him expletives.

Audible sound of their baby crying came in next, then several noises of slapping and shaking can be heard.

"We just could not believe it," Benjamin said, who after hearing the recording took their baby to the hospital for a check-up.

Although doctors found the boy to be in perfect shape, the parents alerted the police, authorities said.

ABC News reported that the officers where initially worried that an audio recording would not make up for a good evidence for the parents to press charges against Khan, but a Charleston police detective interviewed the babysitter and got a full confession.

The woman was then asked to appear in a Charleston, S.C. court, where she pleaded guilty to battery and assault.

The judge in the case sentenced Khan to a maximum of three years in prison and her name was included in the registry of child abusers to prevent her from working with children ever again.

"Who knows how many children she has abused or how many more she would have had it not been for our dog," Benjamin said.

Meanwhile, Killian is currently undergoing training to be a psychiatric service animal brought about by his heroic deed.
