Katie Couric's daytime show "Katie" is taking its last few breaths, but its failure may have even helped propel Couric's best interests.
Rumors have emerged of Katie Couric in talks for replacing Barbara Walters, who is retiring. Couric will be set to join "The View" next year, sources say.
The idea could not have come at a better time for Couric; ratings for "Katie" has been steadily going down, with Katie Couric herself very unhappy about the show taking a showbiz gossip take in its second season.
Barbara Walters announced her retirement back in May, ending an illustrious career in television. Walters has become a staple in the morning show "The View," and so the pressure is heavier upon the ABC executives in their search to replace their retired icon Ms. Walters. She will, however return but as an executive producer.
She has also denied the rumors of having Katie Couric replace her upon retirement in 2014. She says that she and Katie were "good friends" and that they have appeared in each others' shows, she says that there is "no truth to the rumor," that Couric will be taking her place.
ABC however does not want to reach the point of having to humiliate Couric by canceling its somewhat presently lackluster morning show right in the middle of the second season. However, no one seems to be watching it all too much, despite all the rating tactics and strategies that the studio has been coming out for it. The efficacy of their suggestions is even questionable, as they had suggested the gossipy transformation of the show themselves, which even the host was apparently not impressed with. The studio had even thought of adding a Latina American to the show for more variety.
Katie Couric has become a household name because of her success with "Today," therefore making everybody hope that the rumors are indeed true, convinced that she is the perfect replacement.
