5 Ways To Stay Motivated At Work: How To Be Your Best Self In The Workplace In 2017

2016 has been a difficult year for most people, and employees are hopeful that the New Year is going to be better in every sense of the word. After a hard year, some may find that it takes a lot of effort to stay motivated at work, but with a little preparation, self-discipline, and a few adjustments to one's daily routine, anyone can be their best self in the workplace in 2017.
Here are five ways to stay motivated at work.
Get enough sleep
Employees who wake up tired and cranky usually don't get enough sleep at night, which results in a lack of energy and poor performance in the workplace. Adults should get at least 8 hours of sleep, and to do this, one should commit to having a specific time to go to sleep. An hour before bedtime, go through a nightly routine and make a ritual out of it. One could take a warm bath, enjoy a cup of warm milk or cocoa, read a few pages of a book or write in a journal before going to bed. By all means, avoid using smartphones or any other gadgets before bedtime, as studies show that people who often use such devices at night have a more difficult time falling asleep than those who don't.
Start your day right
Wake up early enough to have time to exercise, as even a 15-minute go on the treadmill can raise one's energy level for the day. Have a nourishing breakfast and get dressed in a leisurely manner, as people who start rushing before the workday even starts to end up stressed and tired by lunch time.
Make a to-do list
Upon arriving at the workplace, take some time to list down the things that need to be done for the day. Tick off each item once they get accomplished.
Work on the most difficult or complicated task first thing in the morning
As previously reported by Jobs & Hire, energy and enthusiasm diminish throughout the day, so it's important to work on the most difficult task first thing in the morning. That way, you'll stay motivated to finish other projects, and you'll feel a sense of satisfaction upon completing your first task.
Reward yourself
The occasional small treat or reward after a hard day at work is very motivating for many employees. A treat can be as simple as a scoop or two of one's favorite ice cream, a few nice pens from the office supply store, or a cup of coffee at the corner café. Make sure to save your treats for when you really need them so you'll have something to look forward to at the end of the workday or week.
