With the New Year comes a new job opportunity. This is the perfect time to assess one’s current employment or to start looking for one if you have none. It is a given that most of the New Year’s resolutions are career related. But how can you ace the right job this 2017?

If you want a new job this 2017, then you have to prepare for it accordingly. A data given by the Bureau of Labor Statistics showed that unemployed people per job lowered. This means that job applicants will have more chance of getting hired. There will be more job openings and employment. In this way, landing a career in the industry of your choice can be more attainable. Simply shows that 2017 is a good year for workers.

Even if this is a good year for job hunting, it is very important that you come well prepared. There may be jobs available, but the competition out there can be a tough one. International Business Times shared some tips on how you will be able to take advantage of this year’s friendly job market.

First is that you have to make sure that your resume is ready. It matters a lot that you have a desirable and interesting resume that can help pull you up. Your resume should always be updated and tailored according to the job that you are applying for.

Nicole Cox, Chief Recruitment Officer of Decision Tool Box, shared that you have to make your resume “short and sweet.” Your achievements and accomplishments should be in it. Cox said that “In general, you’ll want to choose the most significant accomplishments, but also ensure they are relevant to the opening.”

Keeping your LinkedIn Profile up-to-date is also very helpful. Your job descriptions, experience, skills, accomplishments and profile photo should be recent. It is important that your profile photo is your professional representation today.

Another thing that you should do is to ensure that you have a wide network. It matters a lot that you establish a broad professional network that can help you scout jobs in different fields. Reaching out to your college buddies, professors, friends and even former co-workers is a good start.

It really counts that you set a good head start for your career plans this year. Jobs & Hire shared that making a strategic career a plan is the right first step to take.
