CES 2017: Under Armour Will Also Bring Back Jobs In The U.S.

President-elect Donald Trump always mentions that his platform centers in bringing back American jobs in the country. Well, Under Armour’s CEO Kevin Plank plans to do the same as well.
USA Today previously reported that Plank already had manufacturing jobs in mind to offer Americans. He stated that jobs for Americans could be achieved through expanding Under Armour’s new site called “UA Lighthouse” in South Baltimore. Plank aims to boost the neighborhood more by extending one more building in the next two decades to bring in more visitors and workers. That means more spending and tax revenue.
During the CES 2017 event last Friday, Plank pointed out that job idea again for the future. With Under Armour constantly moving around continents, Plank stated that even though the labor isn’t cheap, innovation is achieved. He said that instead of cheap labor, they would be investing more on the UA Lighthouse.
"We should be bringing jobs back, not just to America, but tightening supply chains all over the world," Plank said in his speech, as reported by CNBC. "We have the ability to do it better. It's time for all of us to make an investment."
Moreover, Trump called out that companies that manufacture outside the country that they create higher labor costs. Trump also pointed out that robotics and automation decrease job creation. Hence, Under Armour plans to prove that wrong by creating a robust data analysis center that would incorporate both technology and connection.
Besides the matter, Under Armour pioneers innovation but not just competing with only Nike and Adidas anymore. Plank stated the possibility that Samsung and Apple could also decide to create an apparel and footwear line. He then added that the company should be ready for that possibility and that they should be the one to build it first. Plank then concluded that Under Armour had always been a technology company.
