The Insidious sequel may be scary, but people can't seem to get enough of it.

The sequel Insidious: Chapter 2 debuted first place in the box-office race, trumping the likes of even Robert DeNiro with his film "The Family," which ended up as number two.

Starring Patrick Wilson (who had already starred in another box-office topping horror film, the Conjuring) and Rose Byrne, Insidious: Chapter 2 racked in around $144 million over the weekend, after debuting on remarkably strategic date, September 13, which is Friday 13^th.

The film takes off after the first film, wherein a couple's son enters into a coma, becoming a vessel for ghosts in an alternate dimension. The second film has the couple seeking out to uncover secrets as to how they remained connected to the spirit world. In the sequel, Josh and son Dalton have returned from the other realm called "The Further," but not without a nasty demon hitching a ride, and the psychic Elise, who had helped them in the precious film, is murdered. As the Police move in for the investigations, the Lamberts move into Grandma Lorraine's house with the scheming spirits following them, and the supernatural goings-on continue. The film also travels through time, moving to and from Josh Lambert's past to determine the origins of the hauntings, beginning with a prologue that reveals that Josh had been plagued by ghosts when he was a little boy.  25 years later he is again plagues with them as he returns to his mother's house, with his wife and sons becoming worried as he displays disturbing behaviour.

Nmerous new ghosts are also present in the film, in addition to the terrifying Black Bride, who is later revealed to be the spirit of a serial killer who had long wanted to possess Josh. Also present is an entire backstory of the Black Bride and its disturbing origins.

Patrick Wilson has received positive reviews on his performance as Josh Lambert, critics saying he portrayed the father with the frightening baggage incredibly well.
