President-elect Donald Trump showed his support to L.L. Bean after the company got into a predicament in connection with a donation to his candidacy. If his tweet related to L.L. Bean is any indication, companies that supported his bid for the presidency can expect to be treated the same way.
Trump, who will assume the highest position in the U.S. government this January, urged people to buy L.L. Bean catalogs after Grab Your Wallet asked people to boycott the company, Bloomberg News reported. The anti-Trump group wanted people to stop patronizing L.L. Bean products due to the contribution of one of the company's board members to Making America Great Again LLC, a political action committee that helped Trump secure the presidency.
Linda Bean, a board member of the catalog seller and a granddaughter of the company's founder, reportedly donated $60,000 to Making America Great Again, but the political action committee's filing stated that the donation only amounted to $30,000, Daily News reported. However, it was enough to rouse the ire of Grab Your Wallet.
Linda hit back at Grab Your Wallet, saying that what the anti-Trump group does is bullying. Aside from the boycott of L.L. Bean products, the group is also calling for Linda's resignation. In a tweet, Trump praised Linda's courage in the face of adversity.
L.L. Bean denied having any political leanings. The catalog seller's chairman, Shawn Gorman, said Linda's action and political activity does not reflect the views of the other board members and family owners of the company.
The latest issue signals an administration that would be much friendlier to corporations. Jobs & Hire previously reported that Trump praised Ford and Fiat Chrysler for their decisions to invest in the U.S. after the president-elect shamed Toyota for not choosing to do so.
