The current face of Miss America is that of New York's Nina Davuluri.

She may have missed her cue in the talent portion, but that didn't seem to deter her chances at all. The aspiring doctor says that she is glad to be a role model for hundreds of little girls, being the first Miss America of South Asian descent (her parents are from India).

However, social media erupted with racist responses targeting her victory, and her ethnicity.

Several angry tweets accuse Davuluri of being a terrorist, mock her talent portion dance as an "Egyptian" dance, with some even taking offense at the victory, saying that it was disrespectful to the recently concluded memorial to the 9/11 bombings.

Several have also joked about Davuluri having ties with Al-Qaeda.

Many have also cried out that Theresa Vail would have been a better choice for being Miss America, being blonde, tattooed, outdoorsy, and in the military, notwithstanding the hundreds of other enlisted female troops that come in various other ethnicities and hair colors and, being enlisted in the United States Military, also indicate their status as being American. As much as how all the contestants of the recently concluded Miss America are all also American. Racist netizens have not spared first-runner-up Miss California Crystal Lee, with many making an obvious pass at her heritage and bringing up several Chinese fast food chains.

But Nina Davuluri is handling all of the negative criticism like a queen, showing that she rightly deserves the title. Her platform is "Celebrating Diversity Through Cultural Competency," brushing off the racist response like a champ. Racism is still a sensitive topic in the United States which is among the world's top superpowers, despite its beginnings as a nation of immigrants. A French writer once called the United States as a "mixing pot of cultures," something which several enraged netizens have forgotten quite recently.
