An LSU fraternity is walking on thin ice lately after posting a mockery banner of the 1970 Kent State massacre, UPI reported Tuesday.

LSU frat Delta Kappa Epsilon hung a banner in front of their door that reads "Getting massacred is nothing new to Kent State," which was reportedly a part of their preparation for the football game against Kent State this weekend.

However, the offensive message could possibly lead to punishment or corrective action against the LSU frat because it has upset many viewers, who claimed that the banner was rather a mockery to the serious 1970 Kent State massacre.

"I love my Tigers, but this is inappropriate," one LSU fan wrote NBC 33.

UPI reported that the said incident refers to the shooting of four Kent State students in May 1970, when they were killed by the Ohio National Guard during a Cambodia protest.

Because of the offensive message, LSU said in a statement that the Delta Kappa Epsilon's Zeta Zeta chapter could face serious disciplinary action, adding that they will not condone such behavior, WTVM reported.

However, the LSU frat members realized their mistake on their banner's poor state, and reportedly offered an official apology to LSU and to Kent State, which they offended in the message.

The fraternity's chapter released a public apology statement Sunday, which read: "We, the men of Zeta Zeta, formally apologize to your entire community for the banner that was hung from our house this past weekend. The sign was inappropriate and should never have been hung in the first place."

University officials responded to the apology through a statement saying: "LSU officials have spoken with the fraternity and believe that the students now understand the gravity of their actions. The students have issued a formal apology to Kent State University. LSU is also working with local and national DKE leaders in an effort to prevent this type of behavior in the future."

Examiner reported that the LSU fraternity also got involved into another behavioral problem early September when they decided to mock the goings-on in Syria and the tragic chemical gas attack.

The fraternity posted a different banner that mocked the serious issue, which many claimed to be "downright rude."

Their previous banner read: "LSU vs. UAB It's gonna be a gas. Syriasly."
