A Clinton presidency would have been bad for business in the long run. With Trump's victory last year, however, a gun maker is looking to remain in the industry for the next two decades.
In an exclusive interview with Forbes, Marty Daniel, founder of gun manufacturer Daniel Defense spoke about how the presidential elections led to gun makers creating a Clinton plan as well as a Trump plan. In addition, he stated that with Trump as president, business will go on as usual.
Clinton was against gun rights, and a lot of people expected her to win, said Daniel. With her nomination, sales rose due to the fears of many that they will no longer be able to purchase guns when she enters the office.
Daniel believes that if Clinton had won, his business would be doubling in size. It would be "through the roof right now." Similar to what occurred in January last year, gun sales also rose as Obama had been pushing for tighter restrictions.
Daniel shared that although many who are in the business of making and selling guns were for Trump, they had all been preparing for a Clinton presidency. "We had a Trump plan and a Clinton plan," he told Forbes.
When asked about what the Trump presidency means for his business, the founder cited relief, his reasons being that the president is supportive of gun ownership. "We're fortunate that instead of being overstocked, we're still understocked..."
As his brand continues to grow, Daniel expects business to continue as usual for the next decade or two. The challenges that his firm faces include a slow market (compared to the previous year), but he believes that it will correct itself in a year.
Marty Daniel's company began with his hunting hobby. In his desire to buy gun parts, he eventually got to selling and manufacturing them.
