American Girl has been one of the top doll manufacturers in the country for over three decades. In a history-making move, the company released its first ever boy doll named Logan Everett on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
In a statement to USA Today, American Girl spokeswoman Stephanie Spanos said that a boy character has been a top request from their fans for decades.
"We're hopeful Logan will appeal to both girls and boys," said Spanos. "For boys, we know Logan can speak directly to them and give them something unique and special to call their own."
The Logan doll is 18 inches tall and has brown hair and gray eyes. It wears a blue-green shirt under a blue, green, and white plaid button down shirt, dark jeans, and gray sneakers with blue laces. Logan is said to be a drummer who performs with another American Girl doll named Tenney Grant who is an aspiring country western singer.
Parents immediately took to the doll company's official Facebook page to express their excitement over the new doll, as it is definitely a welcome addition to the line. Many also cannot wait for the Logan doll to be available and the company's page has been flooded with questions on when the doll will be out.
"So glad they have a boy doll now!" said one Facebook commenter. "My girls are dying to bring Logan into our home! They actually squealed when they heard the announcement! Guess they better start saving that money!"
Following the Logan doll's announcement, American Girl also debuted more dolls as a direct response to requests from parents and children for more diverse stories, according to NBC News. Among the new dolls which have been added to the line this week are Z. Yang and Nanea Mitchell.
Z. Yang is a Korean-American doll described as "an imaginative filmmaker" whose stories remind girls that "everyone has a unique perspective to share-even if it's not perfect." Nanea is a Native Hawaiian girl growing up during World War II.
