The Colbert Report had always been taking second seat to the Daily Show with Jon Stewart, with the latter winning the Emmy Award ten years in a row.

But in this year's Emmy awards, it's Jon Stewart who will be staying in his seat, as The Colbert Report won the "Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series," as well as "Best Comedy Writing in a Variety Series."

"The Emmys are so good this year," the Colbert Report host Stephen Colbert teased when he accepted the awards.

Stephen Colbert will have plenty to talk about, besting the 10-time Emmy award winner Jon Stewart, under whose shadow the Colbert Report has languished for years.

"The Colbert Report" also won over "Jimmy Kimmel Live," "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," "Real Time with Bill Maher," and "Saturday Night Live."

Critics have previously voiced out their dissent when talks of an Emmys win for "The Colbert Report," emphasizing its origins from the "Daily Show," and its being too comical in its treatment of various political and social issues to be to be of any interest to the snobbish Emmy-giving crowd.

"It's a character who's so strong, I'm not sure that it's everybody's cup of tea, as amazing as it is," Variety Senior Editor Jon Weisman said of Colbert and his show, saying that such a character was not as easily relatable as Jon Stewart's was.

Apparently, people thought otherwise on Emmy's night, held over at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

However, Stephen Colbert has nothing but good things to say about his top competitor Jon Stewart, even going out of his way to thank the 10-time Emmy award winner for helping him and his "stupid character" to move on with his very own show to become a full-time "professional idiot."
