Getting the right amount of sleep is very important. It is indeed a luxury. But for those people who do not get to have seven to eight hours of sleep, you do not have to worry so much because taking naps can also help increase one's productivity level.
According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than a third of American adults do not get the ample amount of sleep that is seven or more hours per day. For adults aged 18-60 years old, it is best that they get at least seven hours sleep each night in order to help promote optimal health and well-being. Those individuals with insufficient sleep are prone to chronic conditions such as diabetes, obesity, heart disease and even stroke. People who are sleep deprived are most likely to have more health issues.
Business Insider shared that taking naps can help improve short-term memory and one’s overall mood. Aside from that, it can also improve cognitive performance and reduce the feeling of sleepiness. It will make you feel re-energized again.
When it comes to business aspect, insufficient sleep can somehow result in low profit because of workers' decreased performance. There is a tendency that workers become sleepy at work and that can affect the business in so many ways. Given that situation, many companies are already encouraging their employees to take a short 20-minute nap in order to help boost their alertness and in return can improve their performance says Sleep.Org.
There are a lot of companies such as Ben & Jerry’s, Nike, Google and Huffington Post New York City headquarters that show a strong commitment to their employees’ health and wellness. That is why they consider the benefits of having naps in between work. Providing your employee with napping pods and extending their breaks can be of great help. This will give them enough time to relax and de-stress, which is very important in order to maintain a strong and solid workforce.
“We look out for our employees’ quality of life, and providing space and time for naps is just another way for us to take care of the people who work there,” said a representative from Ben & Jerry’s. The representative also added that if the employee needs to take a nap to be able to do the best with their job then they support it.
Meanwhile, Jobs & Hire reported that the best way for busy individuals to stay fit and is through setting fitness goals. It is important that you set realistic goals so that achieving it will be easier.
