Young People Use Tinder To Gauge Their Stock Value

There is a huge number of people who think that people who use Tinder are doing so just to find hookups, flings or one-night stands. While that is the case for some Tinder users, a study found that majority of people using Tinder is not there for hookups.
Consumer finance comparison site LendEdu has surveyed more than 3,800 millennials aged 18 to 22 about how they use Tinder. According to a report on MarketWatch, only 22% of Tinder users turn to the app to find hookups. The other 29% use Tinder for a variety of other reasons including friendship, with some claiming that they just want to see what the app has to offer.
If you plan to look for a relationship, Tinder may not be the app for you. Of the millennials surveyed by LendEdu, only 4% of Tinder users are looking for a relationship. The small percentage of Tinder users who are looking for a serious relationship may provide some light on why the app is basically known as a hookup app.
A whopping 44% of the millennials surveyed said they are using the app for "confidence-boosting procrastination." That means that a large portion of Tinder users just want to determine their stock value based on the number of matches that they can get using Tinder.
For people who are looking for a serious relationship, they may have a higher chance of being able to do so using other dating sites like Match.com and OkCupid, which also have phone apps.
Jeffrey Hall, associate professor of communications at the University of Kansas, said using dating apps to look for someone to be with is not really productive. He said that spending a lot of time looking at pictures and spending a lot of time looking for the one might actually cut down your chances of doing so.
Business Mirror reported that Bumble, another dating app, allows women to make all the choices. The strategy is that in letting women be in charge of who to talk to, there will be fewer chances of being a victim of ghosting or receiving unsolicited nudity pictures.
