Jobseeker Turned Down By Boots For Not Dressing “Conservatively Enough” Gets Hired By Rival Superdrug

Earlier this month, a jobseeker was turned down by UK health and beauty retailer Boots. While the company is said to have rejected Rosie Reilly due to the fact that she was not dressed “conservatively enough,” it appears that luck is on her side as she has just been hired by a rival company, Superdrug.
On March 24, Reilly took to Twitter to post that she was on her way to work. A few minutes later, she shared a photo of herself alongside a shot of her nametag, which has the Superdrug logo. She captioned the post, “I’ve got that Superdrug feeling.”
At the end of her shift, the 26-year-old said on the microblogging site that everyone at work has been “so lovely and it feels so good to be working in retail again.” She also revealed that a customer came up to her and asked her if she was the girl who was rejected by Boots for her interview outfit.
On March 6, Reilly tweeted Boots to tell the company that she was not allowed to continue with her interview “because I wasn’t dressed ‘conservatively enough.’” Reilly posted a photo of her interview outfit, which consists of a black and white polka dot long-sleeved blouse paired with a knee-length black skirt and black tights. Her hair was neatly arranged in curls above her head, and she wore red lipstick, a slash of eyeliner, and a nose ring to complete her look.
After two days, Reilly received an email from the Regional Opticians Manager of Boots, telling her that a full investigation is being conducted on the matter. She was also invited to return to continue with the interview and to come to a follow-up meeting. Reilly declined to do so.
Speaking with the Daily Mail, Reilly said that it feels “brilliant” to have a job in retail again and is looking forward to moving on.
“My confidence has definitely been boosted,” she told the media outlet. “It’s been nice to move on from what happened at Boots and to look ahead to the future.”
Reilly plans to continue working at Superdrug to save up for a much-needed holiday.
