After the success of SpaceX and Tesla, renowned entrepreneur Elon Musk is ready to launch another company, which is reported to focus on augmenting brain with technology. The new company, known as Neuralink, came into the limelight post-revelation through a Wall Street Journal article later today.
According to WThe Wall Street Journal, Musk had been working for quite some time on the new interface concerning joining of a brain to a computer. The idea behind Musk's scheme is to cover up the gap between the fast-pacing AI technology and the human mind.
Musk discussed this subject at the Code Conference last year, suggesting the introduction of a "neural lace" that will be surgically implanted on a human brain. This will then allow a user to interact with the computer without compromising with bandwidth lags. Musk was also noted to tweet that he has made quite a progress with this AI-human project and has therefore planned of launching a company dedicated to the project.
However, reports state that Elon Musk's new company, Neuralink, will not be focusing on enhancing the human brainpower for now. Instead, the company is going to research whether the human brain interface with the technology could lead to various fatal and chronic conditions or not, reported TechCrunch.
Medical conditions such as depressive disorder and epilepsy are some of the conditions that are a possibility. Musk suggested that the technology could help improve therapies, which are known to use electrodes in the brain for treating various symptoms such as Parkinson's. Neuralink will, therefore, get the chance to research and develop the technology aimed at human augmentation with the artificial intelligence.
Elon Musk's ideas might sound too ambiguous, but his other companies were also set up using far-fetched ideas. And, history proves it that the companies succeeded. Whether the same will be the case with Neuralink is yet to be seen.
