When it comes to selecting ties, it is easy to default to the tried and tested black, especially if you are wearing a black suit, but there are so many more options available to you. Ties can help express your personality and traits as well as add a hint of color to your daily business wear. But if you aren't sure where to start when it comes to ties, then you're in the right place. Here we have the most common tie colors and which suits they look best with!

Red

Some people either love it or hate it, but red is one of the most popular color for a tie out there. Favoured by politicians and businessmen, it makes you stand out and gives the impression that you are leader. Red is also an exceptionally versatile color, you can buy it in a range of shades. So if you don't want a fire truck red tie, you can go for a deeper maroon or burgundy and still make a statement. Red ties look excellent with black or charcoal suits, but not with navy. If you want to make a sterling first impression and show that you are a leader, or a leader in the making, red might be the color for you.

Grey/Silver

Solid color grey and silver are upcoming for 2020. They've been on the back burner for a while, but with the rise of the stylish, slim fit navy 3 piece, a grey or silver tie is a must. You will need to think about how dark or light your navy suit is before you settle on a tie. The darker the navy suit, the lighter the tie will need to be. If you are thinking about a mid-navy suit, a rich matt grey tie will look exceptional. If you really want to wow the people, you're with, look for a woollen grey tie. Not only is a high-quality weave, the wool also adds depth and texture that you don't get with satin or silk. These are awesome ties that'll go well with navy suits

Bright Fuchsia

Whether you are wearing a charcoal suit, navy or black a bright fuchsia tie can make you stand out from the crowd. Some people may not like the idea of a hot pink tie, but on some days, it can really set you apart from other people. When it comes to fuchsia, you want to make sure that it is a solid color, all the way through the tie. It needs to have a more satin than matt finish to make sure the color is even throughout the length. If you chose a matt effect fuchsia tie, you'll find that in certain lights, it may look sun bleached or as though it hasn't been well cared for, which is something that should be avoided.

Yellow

Yellow is one of those beautifully versatile colors, you can use it with any color suit, for pretty much any occasion. A gentle yellow tie can help people feel calm and relaxed when they look at you and can also help people warm up to you as it is a naturally gentle and friendly color. Unlike other colors, it doesn't really matter what type of material you select. Yellow can look good in a thicker cotton weave tie, as it adds more depth to the color, it also looks excellent in silk or satin. However, If you are wanting a silk or satin tie in yellow there are a few things you need to consider. A sunshine yellow tie in silk or satin can almost look like plastic, so reserve these fabrics for pastel yellows. A sunshine yellow tie will look excellent in a cotton weave, especially a heavy one, it will add deoth and shade in the correct area and will make an impression. Not only is yellow a happy color, it is also very regal, you'll find that people will respond well to it and expect you to be able to lead in a calming manner.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to choosing a tie color, there is a lot more to it than just picking one you like. Colors create illusions and can communicate the type of person you are or want to be, especially when you are choosing strong colors. If you want to be noticed, but also taken seriously, a red tie is an excellent way to do this. If you are more inclined to be subtle, yet decisive, then a grey or silver will help. Finally bright fuchsia and yellow are there to help you make a statement, but you need to make sure you pick the correct fabric in order to pull it off.
