"I promise to be the best Miss World ever," said the new Miss World 2013, Megan Young. Representing the Philippines, Young received the crown from the reigning Miss World 2012, Wenxia Yu of China.
Young made history by claiming the elusive Miss World Title. This is the first in 63 years. Not only that, the Philippines is now the first and only country to have won all five major beauty pageants: Miss Universe, Miss World, Miss International, Miss Tourism and Miss Earth. This win brings the country its ninth title and placed third place in terms of overall success. Venezuela holds top rank with 19 titles and United States in second place with 14.
The closest that the Philippines came to winning Miss World were in 1973 and 2011. Evangeline Pascual and Gwendoline Ruais won first runner-up respectively.
Young bested 126 beauties from countries all over the world. She became an early favorite when she arrived in Bali, Indonesia. A day before the coronation night, the actress-model bagged the first place in Top Model competition. A large number of Filipino fans in the audience celebrated and waved the country's flag after Young's name was announced as the winner.
Fashion icon and designer, Francis Libiran, made the gowns that Young wore during the competition.
