According to a recent study, premarital counseling no longer a priority, as premarital is already a necessity. "Couples must prioritize premarital counseling, as this will increase the likelihood of a happy married life, and decrease the possibility of divorce", May White, a psychologist said.
According to study, there are four "awkward tips" which the couples who undergone a premarital counseling finds it awkward. "First of all, people find it uncomfortable to discuss about "Divorce"", White said. This is because couples are uncomfortable discussing about divorce where in fact they are just starting for a marriage. "Its really awkward to talk about divorce because as a couple, we do not want that to happen to us, I mean we are just starting the relationship, and hearing about the divorce is something that we do not want to talk about", Gloria Smith, 25 years old, newly wed
Second on the list according to research is "Sex", which is considered as an activity that provides the greatest satisfaction in a couple. There are three issues that the beings discuss here. First are the frequency, style and monogamy. "Sharing our private moment can be humiliating and awkward", Gloria said.
Third on the list is finance which is one of the difficult to open up. "Life is hard, and opening our bank account is something that we are hesitant to share with because the counselor may think that we are not ready for a married life", Dan Smith, husband of Gloria said.
And most of all, "conflict resolution" is also one of the hardest to share with, as most couple would like to forget about it and move on. "you know that feeling when you are talking about your fight in front of a counselor is really awkward, and talking about conflicts brings bad memories", the couple added.
