Uh-Oh! Baby's Rapidly Maturing Genitalia Incite Brain Section Removal

An 18-month-old baby boy in India had to undergo brain surgery after his parents found out that his genital was rapidly maturing by the day.
A young baby boy reportedly suffered from premature puberty at 18-months-old. His parents said that they noticed something was peculiar about the rapid physical growth of the young boy's body.
The International Business Times reported that the young boy was starting to mature at a rapid rate, noting that his genital was already that of a 12 or a 13-year-old kid. His voice has already deepened at his young age and he even began to get acne on his face.
Jawaharlal Institute of Post graduate Medical Education and Research doctors diagnosed the baby with or premature puberty or "precocious puberty," which they defined as a condition wherein the body, for some reason, begins to produce excessive amounts of estrogen.
"Precocious puberty" was said to be due to cerebral disorders or brain damage that greatly affected a certain part of the brain.
According to NEWSER, the baby was made to undergo injection therapy for nearly two years just so his body could block the secretion of more of the said hormone, but it hardly cured the baby's condition. However, the therapy was stubbed since it required that the baby needs to undergo expensive shots within the decade to entirely treat his condition, which his parents couldn't afford.
The doctors then presented an alternative to the parents to help the bay in the best way they can: a brain surgery.
News.com reported that the rare and quite dangerous surgery required the removal of abnormal tissue from the hypothalamus of the baby. The hypothalamus is said to be the section of the brain that controls hormonal secretions.
"The patient responded well," to the surgery, said neurosurgeon V R Roopesh Kumar to the Times of India. "His hormone values became normal for his age and he does not require any further treatment."
Surprisingly, the Indian baby's condition is not that rare in the US, with documented 5-10,000 children diagnosed of "precocious puberty" but the main difference is that these cases do not take place in as early as 18 months of age.
Experts said the condition is easily cured with either medical treatment that involves hormonal blocking injections or brain surgery.
