Hold on to your hats, as CBS prepares to add a huge star to bolster their lineup of big dramas for next summer!
Word is out that Halle Berry has come on board and will star in Extant. Extant is said to be a 13-episode drama that will be produced by Steven Spielberg's company, Amblin Television and the CBS television studios, of course.
Halle Berry is know for her many roles, including a stint in Mission Impossible, and has even garnered an Oscar for her performance in Monster's Ball. Berry will play an astronaut in the series, who returns home after spending a year alone in space. In Extant, she attempts to reconnect with both her son and her husband. Apparently, her time both at home and in space has lead to a couple of history-changing events.
Along with the announcement of the show, Berry also released a statement. She said, "I'm always on the lookout for amazing roles, and when you see material that contains this strong of auspices, nuance and complexity, it compels me to run toward it no matter the medium,". She has expressed excitement at the opportunity to play the vurnerable and intelligent character five months out of the year. As for the rest of her year, Berry plans to look for more stimulating and challenging roles that will move her.
Spielberg, as well as CBS entertainment President Nina Tassler also expressed excitement for the upcoming project. Both sang praises for the actress' talent, and also expressed confident that she would be very capable of bringing authenticity to the role that she will be playing.
Extant will be Berry's very first foray into television series. It is a fitting choice, given the very original concept and compelling script.
