A Wal-Mart worker lost his job after fighting with an a customer attacker in a Wal-Mart parking lot. The Michigan man is now claiming that he got fired after helping a woman, who was being assaulted, but ended up losing his job for his brave gesture, ABC News reported Friday.
According to the Huffington Post, a 30-year-old man named Kristopher Oswald had revealed to WXYZ-TV that he was fired by the retail giant for violating its policies. He even claimed that the management even handed him some papers stating that he was being dismissed from his position, citing some policy violations on the side.
Oswald said that Wal-Mart has strict rules and regulations when it comes to violence in the workplace especially when it involves hurting other employees and co-workers and there is even a provision that prevents them from hurting shoplifters. However, he said that the retail giant's policies lack provisions that would enable them to assist customers who are involved in dangerous situations within the store's premises. There isn't even a policy that would allow them to practice self-defense.
Bentonville, Ark-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc. Spokeswoman Ashley Hardie clarified the issue by telling The Associated Press that Oswald has completely violated the company policy although his intentions were clean and for the good of a customer.
"We had to make a tough decision, one that we don't take lightly, and he's no longer with the company," Hardie said.
According to the recounts of the Wal-Mart worker who recently got fired, it was about 2:30 a.m., when he caught sight of a man - still unidentified - grabbing a woman.
Oswald said that upon approaching the two, the attacker punched him in the head right away and gave him an caveat that he is to be killed any time soon. Fortunately, the retail store employee managed to get on top of the attacker.
Reports revealed that the altercation between the Wal-Mart worker and the attacker lasted for some time until the Livingston County sheriff's deputies had arrived on the scene of fight and stopped them from even inflicting more physical pain on each other.
