By Jobs & Hire Staff Reporter | Oct 21, 2013 03:08 PM EDT
Without a doubt, Sherlock is one of the most talked about and highly anticipated series today. After nearly two years of being absent on air, Sherlock Season 3 is finally just around the corner, with a projected official airing early 2014. That's right! Not October and definitely not December. And although the projected January release date still remains unconfirmed as of late, we can assure you as early as now that this season will not be the show's last as Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman revealed recently that a fourth season is very likely to happen. "We've agreed to two more series but I could get into trouble for saying that," Cumberbatch reportedly said, according to the Latin Times.
Before we even lose our sanity with the growing tension, anticipation, and fangirling/fanboying euphoria, here are some of the things we can expect for the upcoming season. But please be reminded that the following sentences may contain EXTREME SPOILERS, so please do read at your own risk. Sherlock Season 2 ended with a bang, could we expect Season 3 to begin with the same energy? Absolutely! In an recent guesting at the Graham Norton Show, lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch who plays the titular role revealed that there are a lot of surprises in store for fans including a reunion among friends (hallelujiah for Sherlock-John shippers!), a wedding, and a new supervillain. "I can't say an awful lot but he comes back, there's a reunion that doesn't go as planned, there's a wedding and there's a new bad guy," Cumberbatch said during his guesting. Additionally, he was asked by comedian Jack Whitehall the biggest question that every Sherlock series fan has been dying to raise: how the hell did Sherlock fake his death? And Benedict was quick to reply, "Smoke and mirrors." Although we are not sure yet on how to go about this trick, this just gives us another reason to the nearly 1,001 reasons we have to watch out for Sherlock Season 3.
According to Hypable, Sherlock Season 3 is composed of three 90-minute episodes, adding that filming for the three is officially over. But with the start date still unconfirmed the hype over the return of one the famous if not the most famous detective of all time is increasing and increasing in the passing of the day. Another thing we need to clarify here is the alleged Christmas special of the series, which according to a published Entertainment Weekly article, would simply be a bonus episode for fans. However, the BBC has never mentioned, let alone confirmed the existence of this episode, but let's just wait and see 'til then.
For fans who just can't get enough of the series, here are more spoilers to whet your appetite. Sherlock Season 3 is going to be a season that will look much deeper on Sherlock and Watson's friendship. "It's when John and Sherlock meet again. I think that's the showstopper," Cumberbatch revealed to Hypable, adding that fans will see a different kind of friendship between the two now that Watson is married to Mary Moirstan (played by Amanda Abbington). By the way, in case you haven't known yet, Abbington is the real-life girlfriend of Freeman. "It's a long, complicated, emotional journey, and extremely funny," he adds.
In the all new season, it seems that Sherlock is still being haunted by Moriarty (Andrew Scott) who apparently also feigned his own death, only to reapper and kill John Watson in his sleep. KIDDING! Moriarty is actually back but now as a corpse. Show creator Steven Moffat already confirmed. "He can't come back from that [the dead]," he said, adding, "He shot himself in the face. What more do you want?"
Another big SPOILER is the introduction of Sherlock's newest archenemy, Charles Augustus Magnussen, played by Dutch actor Lars Mikkelsen. But fans can simply chill and enjoy the twists and turns of Sherlock and Watson's relationship more since Magnussen is only set to debut in the third and final episode for this season.
Of course, we are also hoping for more clues on how Sherlock cheat death last season. Freeman teased, "All the clues were on screen. It's not going to be a cheat -- everything that we saw on that final episode offers hints as to how he did it." Then, there are also some hints that Molly Hooper (Louise Brealey) took part in Sherlock's trick.
If John gets married this season, can we expect the same for Sherlock? At a Comic-Con international early this year, it has been revealed that Sherlock won't be finding love just yet. (doesn't his violin count?) "Sex is brain work for him. Can you imagine romance with Sherlock? He'd poison his girlfriend just to see if it works," Moffat joked.
PS: If you haven't seen the preview for Sherlock Season 3, then you might want to take your time to prepare some tissues or an entire blanket as lachrymal ducts are very prone to leaking while viewing the video below. Now, click the play button or rape the replay to your liking.
