Sally Ann Okuly has cheated death for a couple of times now, but like a 'Final Destination' flick, her demise was inevitable.
Sally Ann Okuly made news when she apparently survived a horrifying motorcycle crash about six months ago. What made her even more remarkable though was the fact that she was also a cancer survivor.
Nonetheless, the 59-year-old didn't manage to cheat death this time around when she took her first walk after recovering from the crash.
Sally likes to take a walk from her Woodbridge, Va. home to a nearby Wawa gas station. Unfortunately, one of her favorite pastime activity was also the same reason why she died on Monday.
Authorities told NBC Washington that Sally Ann Okuly was crossing the street when the traffic sign turned green, but a 24-year-old Amanda Styles-Mays accidentally struck the cancer survivor with her car, which led to Okuly's death the day after in the hospital.
According to Prince William County Police Spokesman Jonathan Perok, "the investigation revealed that a pedestrian was crossing Opitz Boulevard at the intersection with Montgomery Avenue... with a solid green light. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler did not yield the right of way and proceeded to turn left, striking the pedestrian."
Such news broker her husband's heart. Bill Okuly said through several local outlets that they were supposed to celebrate their 41st anniversary this Monday.
A memorial has been erected at the intersection where she got hit by a car, and it says, "In loving memory of our friend and neighbor, Sally Ann Okuly."
Sally was a member of the Rolling Thunder motorcycle club alongside her husband. She now leaves behind two grown children.
