Carrie Underwood is facing a huge storm from loyal Julie Andrews fans, and the American Idol winner has opened up about the mean tweets she has been receiving lately after news broke out that she is the new Maria in the live remake of the classic and forever hit "Sound of Music," UPI reported Wednesday.
Carrie Underwood definitely knows what's coming her way when she decided to be part of the upcoming live remake of the classic musical film "Sound of Music," which is set to air on NBC this coming December.
"I get hate Tweets and stuff like, 'You're not Julie Andrews!'" Underwood said in a recent Entertainment Weekly interview. "I know I'm not Julie Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was ... I know my place."
However, Julie Andrews fans should not at all make a big deal out of Underwood's version of Maria since the original actress who portrayed the role is also supporting the American Idol winner in this endeavor. Andrews even claims that she is a "fan" of Underwood.
"Fifty years later, it's time somebody had another crack at it," the now 78-year-old Andrews told Zap2it. "I had the best time of my life doing it, and it did wonderful things for me. I think it's great that it's being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting Carrie."
Co-starring in the live remake are Stephen Moyer ("True Blood") and Audra McDonald ("Private Practice").
The live three-hour special and remake of "Sound of Music" is set to air this December 5 at 8/7c on NBC.
