Thanksgiving Day is supposed to bring good news to everyone as families reunite and gather together to celebrate. Unfortunately, it didn't bring any good news to a Pizza Hut manager after he refused to open a restaurant branch for the sake of his employees.
Tony Rohr was a Pizza Hut employee for nearly 10 years, and because of his hard work he found his way to the top by becoming a manager at a restaurant branch. Nevertheless, his tenure may have ended a little too soon.
According to MSN Now, Rohr refused to open the restaurant on Thanksgiving Day to give his employees a day off for them to celebrate Thanksgiving with their families.
Reports stated that he argued with the supervisors, claiming that he didn't want to open the branch he managed on Thanksgiving Day.
"I said, 'Why can't we be the company that stands up and says we care about our employees and they can have the day off?'" he told WSBT-TV. However, instead of listening to his plea, his bosses demanded that he should pass a letter of resignation right away.
Meanwhile, when WSBT contacted a Pizza Hut director, he claimed that Rohr was the one who decided to quit, adding that the company's gesture to open Pizza Hut on Thanksgiving Day has always been a company-wide decision.
Fortunately, hours after news about Rohr's firing broke out, Pizza Hut's corporate office issued a statement that the franchise that had fired Rohr made a "serious error in judgment."
As of late, the company strongly recommends that Rohr should be rehired, but the ex-Pizza Hut manager who is an obvious advocate of Thanksgiving Day celebration told CNN that he has not decided yet whether he is taking his job back
