In New York, a passenger train derailment killed four people and injured many more. Firefighters and first responders arrived in droves to control the resulting chaos.

Two train cars flipped on their sides after derailing from the line near Spuyten Duyvil station in the Bronx. One of the cars was just a few feet shy of the Harlem river. The incident occurred around 7 am on Sunday. The train's operator shares that he applied the brakes but the train refused to slow down. One of the passengers noted to new reporters that he thought the train was traveling faster than usual. Frank Tatulli, the passenger in question, was able to escape the train but suffered head and neck injuries. Seven of the eight cars were off the tracks at the end of the train derailment.

New York Fire Department Chief Edward Kilduff reports that three of the deceased were thrown out of their seats as the train derailment caused the cars to twist and turn. Divers scoured the water in search for survivors while cadaver dogs combed the wreckage.

New York Police Chief Ray Kelly reported that at least 67 people were hurt in the train derailment with 11 of them severely injured. The cause of the accident is still largely unknown. The train was traveling from Poughkeepsie to the Grand Central Station.

This isn't the first time the line experienced an accident. In May, two trains collided on the line. The incident occurred during rush hour in Connecticut. Investigations into the cause of the crash are still underway. A freight train was also derailed near the same area last July. Luckily, no injuries or casualties were reported.

Metro-North tweeted that operations were to be halted on part of the Hudson line while Amtrack announced suspension of service between Albany and New York following the derailment.
