American rock legends Van Halen is reported putting together a new album. This is according to singer David Lee Roth who gave an interview and revealed that Van Halen likely would release a new album in a year and a half.

The interview was with SiriusXM's Jim Florentine. David Lee Roth also shares some details about the band's routine jam sessions. The front man tells Florentine that they practice together three times a week and that he writes music frequently as well.

David Lee Roth also talks about why they begin the album-making process so far ahead of time. He says that they prefer to create all the artwork and graphics for their album. Roth adds that if a fan buys Van Halen merchandise, that they are purchasing something that was designed, literally, in the singer's living room. This is very different from other bands that hire graphic artists and marketing agents to create merchandise for them.

Diamond Dave wasn't always the lead singer for the band. He joined Van Halen in 1974 but was replaced by Sammy Hagar in 1985. The split was largely due to creative differences between Roth and Eddie Van Halen. While the former wanted to make light and fun songs, the latter wanted the band to move into more serious music. In 1996 Sammy Hagar was replaced by Gary Cherone. 2007 spelled the return of David Lee Roth and the lineup remained unchanged to this day. The band presently has Roth, Eddie, Alex Van Halen and Wolfgang Van Halen.

Van Halen has released 12 studio albums including "1984", "Women and Children First", "Van Halen", "Van Halen II", "Van Halen III", "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" and more. The band made "A Different Kind of Truth" in 2012 but did not make an album before that since 1998. This is also the first album to feature Roth since 1984.
